Weld/Laminated joint
Joint classification: Weld/laminated, axial restrained.
Description: permanent joint through two connection techniques.
- First, the thermoplastic liners joined together by means of butt welding or extrusion welding.
- After welding the connection is laminated by resin-impregnated glass fibers layers wound around the weld connection of the pipes or fittings. The manufacturing process is the “hand lay-up” (HLU) system.
The butt weld or extrusion weld is inlaid with a carbon thread for the benefit of spark testing to check the weld for defects.
Length and thickness of the laminate are function of the design pressure. The jointing system guarantees a safe and long-lasting connection.
